The remedy is really very simple: one ounce of sublimed sulfur (USP) divided into four equal parts and taken at four intervals approximately 12 hours apart. My father would always recommend taking the sulfur with meals.

So that would be one “dose” with breakfast on one day, one with dinner that same day, another dose with breakfast on the second day and the final dose with dinner on the second day.

I know this sounds like excruciating detail, but based on some of the emails I got, I had to get this detailed to be sure everyone understood exactly how to take it. Just saying divide one ounce of sulfur into four equal amounts and take each amount at 12 hour intervals with a meal did not seem to register with a few people. It is also important to note the USP level of purity. One website is selling Tech grade flowers of sulfur, which should never be consumed.

Some background:

My father discovered the effect that sulfur had around 1944 when he contracted a very serious case of the disease. After trying a number of things without success, he noticed some rose bushes on one of his trips to the backyard. (Back then, bed-rest was the primary remedy for the disease. My father would supplement the bed-rest with trips to the backyard to just lie in the sun.) At that time, the prevalent treatment for fungus on roses was sulfur. That got him thinking about trying sulfur on this fungal infection. (He grew up in the Midwest where “sulfur and molasses” was a common cure for “spring fever”. So, he was not intimidated by taking this alternative.) Much, to his surprise, the recovery was quick.

The pharmacist where he bought the sulfur was surprised too. Together they worked out the formula that was used for several years in the Bakersfield area. Back then a pharmacist could establish their own formulas and they bottled this remedy and sold it as Coxidex. To disguise the sulfur they mixed it with powdered chocolate and added activated charcoal to mitigate some of the flatulence. But, the active ingredient is the sulfur. Coxidex had a decent market from about 1944 to 1952 at which time the pharmacist moved to Texas. With the pharmacist gone, distribution of Coxidex stopped. Initially my father did nothing, but word of mouth had spread and even doctors would call him and ask how they could get the remedy for their patients. They (the doctors) encouraged him to continue to distribute his remedy, which he did until we left Bakersfield in 1957.

My father claimed to have cured over 900 people, but any documentation to that fact is gone. Based on limited emails that I received, however, this has clearly worked for a number of people since I initiated the website in 1998. How many is hard to pin down, since some of the emails just lacked the specifics to know that they had been cured. Since, they took the time to write and seemed happy, I assumed that they were over the disease. One fellow was also very excited about the fact that the sulfur seemed to stop a very bad case of athlete's foot that he has suffered with for years.

My father did try to sell his remedy to a few pharmaceutical firms, but when they found out that the only real ingredient was sulfur, they were unwilling to market the product.
