A Valley Fever Case Study | Odin's Story

Odin, the German Shepherd Dog cured of Valley Fever.

We have a German shepherd, named Odin, who contracted Valley Fever and would have submitted to it if not for the natural remedies (sulphur and organic foods) that he received.

None of the expensive prescriptions were affecting his ailment, only making our already weak canine pal weaker and sicker.

But, today, he is back to his full weight, titer count is back to normal and he no longer has any joint pain or breathing problems – Valley Fever gone!

We moved to Arizona from New Jersey in September of 2004. We had never heard of Valley Fever, a very common ailment here in the desert, so when our 110 lb. German shepherd, Odin, became lethargic, complained of joint pain (he whimpered when he moved), and hit 95 pounds, we took him to the vet and learned ALLLLL about it. They gave us the usual remedy (fluconazole), which only made him vomit, even after we put him on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice (which Odin did not complain about!). Even when he had a good day (less pain than usual), the medication was only masking his symptoms – it would never actually cure him and he was now down to 85 pounds.

So, I started with the research. Every day I scoured the internet and all the books I could find on what the body needed to fight this. I came across the story of an older gentleman by the name of Stokesbary (see article) who had suffered with Valley Fever for years. He finally figured out on his own how to combat the fungus related with Valley Fever - the information was posted to the internet by his son, but the information on this site has since been removed for fear of legal ramifications. Are you ready for this…? Sulphur. He realized that when his roses suffered from fungus, he used sulphur, so maybe it would work for him too. He went to his pharmacist who, upon consideration, agreed with him and made him the capsules. After much experimentation, he found what worked for him and began sharing the information with others.

Shortly after posting the information on this “remedy” the poster began receiving requests for treating canines, but he had nothing to deliver. No one had ever tested it on dogs before. One brave breeder, Danielle Leto, decided to experiment with her prize dogs with marveled success. After reading her story, various testimonials from other courageous pet owners, and all my other research, I was convinced that the sulphur could help Odin too.

We went to our local pharmacist and told him what we were going to do; he was a bit skeptical, but concluded that it was up to us to treat our pet how we will. We went on the advice of Ms. Leto for the dosage and 4 months later, Odin was free of Valley Fever. We had him retested, and his titer count was back to normal. He hasn’t had another episode since.

Odin’s protocol:  We had one ounce of Sublimed Sulphur (also spelled sulfur) divided into capsules by the pharmacist. Odin received 1/8 of the capsules in the morning and 1/8 in the evening for four days, repeated every month for four months total. After each dose we administered a tea of ginger and chamomile to help sooth his tummy – one little sulphur burp is enough to bring everything in your belly back up! In addition, we added Vitamin C powder (about ¼ tsp), Pau d’Arco alcohol-free liquid extract (5 drops), acidophilus (Pearls™), Echinacea (400 mg), glucosamine with chondroitin (1000 mg), calcium with Vitamin D (500 mg plus 50 IU), Amazapet (for the breathing issues), a pet multi-vitamin (Super Pet Vites) to his meals. His meal while receiving the sulphur consisted of boiled chicken and rice, and during the interim he ate a blend of pureed raw vegetables (broccoli, carrots, celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, asparagus, bell peppers, squash – in no certain quantities or blends) and Iams dry dog food for large breed adults, and that’s what he eats to this day, while still being supplemented with Vitamin C, glucosamine with chondroitin, calcium with Vitamin D, and the pet multi-vitamin. Depending on the age and condition of your beloved friend, you may also want to consider supplementing with any of these other all-natural pet products from Native Remedies' PetAlive product line: C-Caps (to promote overall cell health and boost the immune and detoxification systems), K-C Defense (for Kennel Cough and other respiratory infections), DetoxPlus (this will help remove the toxins flooding the system as the fungus is destroyed), PetHeal (helps speed up the healing process, relieve pain and reduce inflammation), Energy Tonic (natural herbal tonic to promote vitality in lethargic pets), Respo-K (herbal and homeopathic supplement for respiratory infections and health), Flatulence Preventer (that may be self explanatory...).
