- Hypoxis Rooperi (extract of African Potato) is traditionally used as a natural convalescent and as a supportive tonic. Hypoxis contains phytosterols and sterolins, which help to modulate the effect of the immune system. Research has shown the beneficial effect of plant sterols and sterolins on the immune system. - Agathosma Betulina (also known as buchu) has been used by the natives of the Western Cape of South Africa for many centuries. The leaves of buchu contain 1.0 – 3.5% volatile oils as well as flavonoids - compounds found in fruits and vegetables that have diverse beneficial biochemical and antioxidant effects. Buchu supports the body’s natural ability to rid itself of toxins by stimulating the secretion of retained water, making it a natural diuretic. Research suggests that the natural antiseptic action is due to the volatile oils, of which the primary component thought to have antibacterial action is monoterpene disophenol. (Simpson D. - Mentha Piperita promotes the body’s natural flow of bile. The leaves of this herb yield approximately 0.1–1.0% volatile oil, composed primarily of menthol and menthone, both which can be extremely beneficial in supporting a healthy immune system. Scientific studies on this herb have demonstrated a proven effect of Mentha piperita on efforts to combat Tuberculosis. - Solidago Virgaurea (also known as Goldenrod) helps the body in its ability to routinely regulate mucus, and has been used traditionally by herbalists for centuries as a tonic remedy to strengthen the natural protective ability of the body to fight infection.
- Viscum Album acts as a natural diuretic and vasodilator, supporting the natural strength of capillary walls and the body’s natural ability to encourage repair of damaged cells. In a recent study, it was determined that cellular components of the body’s natural immune system (such as monocytes and granulocytes) bound Viscum album agglutinin-I molecules to a higher degree than lymphocytes, suggesting that this herb can modulate natural immune responses. - Crataegus Oxyacanthoides is highly respected as a tonic to support healthy circulation. Studies have demonstrated the ability of Crataegus to positively assist with cardiological indications, utilizing active flavonoids in the herb producing simultaneous cardiotropic and vasodilatory action, thus dilating blood vessels for improved circulation. - Schizandra Sinesis is a powerful ingredient native from China. Schizandra is also used to assist the body in its capacity to regulate and maintain healthy energy levels, and to routinely protect against toxins and cell damage. It is effective in helping the body to perform its natural function of regeneration of damaged liver tissue, while promoting improved overall regulation of physiological processes. Studies show that Schisandra can help to promote healthy cardiovascular, liver, and kidney functions (Liu GT, "Pharmacological actions and clinical use of Fructus schizandrae," Chin Med J (Eng), 1989, 102(10):740-9).
- Astralagus Membranaceus is another potent Chinese remedy and has a variety of benefits as a convalescent and natural rejuvenating tonic. Astragalus membranaceus has been shown to modulate the imbalance state of Th1/Th2 in patients with herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) and improve their immune function disturbance. - Olea Europea (extract of olive leaf) contains a compound called oleuropein acid that is effective in helping the body to routinely combat numerous pathogens (germs). The positive effects of Olive leaf have recently been demonstrated in a variety of clinical studies. Olive leaf also contains the active ingredient Calcium enolate, which is directly responsible for stimulating phagocytosis, the immune system process in which phagocytes in the blood engulf and digest harmful foreign micro-organisms. Calcium enolate also stops the production of enzymes that a retrovirus, such as HIV, needs in order to change the RNA of a healthy cell. How do I use ImmunityPlus?
Dosage
As an immune system booster and preventative, take 10 to 15 drops of ImmunityPlus in a little water three times daily, just before the winter season or following exposure to infection.
A three week course is generally recommended for preventative purposes. An additional 10-day refresher treatment every 3 months is also advised.
CAUTION
Safety during pregnancy has not yet been established. ImmunityPlus should not be used if there is any known allergy to bees or to substances containing honey or bee products.

Full Spectrum Method vs. 'Standardized' Extracts
You may have heard the term 'standardized' extract used in relation to herbal remedies, but do you know what this means?
Many pharmaceutical companies have begun manufacturing herbal remedies using a process of extraction whereby harsh chemicals are employed to extract the active ingredients of medicinal herbs.
You will recognize these extracts by the usage of the words 'standardized' extract on the labels. This method of manufacturing is often cited as being more scientific and able to produce a superior product with controlled and guaranteed amounts of active ingredients in each product.
Contrary to these claims, this process is not approved by the manufacturers of holistic medicines. One of the reasons is that the process of extracting so-called 'active ingredients' and isolating them from the rest of the herb is one that has resulted in an increase in side effects, as the herb in this way loses its natural ability to protect against side effects.
In addition, many manufacturers use all parts of the plants to create standardized extracts, whereas herbalists know that only certain parts of some herbs should be used.
In the case of Ginkgo Biloba, for example, it is well known that the seeds of this plant are poisonous and can cause seizures and that only the leaves should be used. Standardized extracts of Ginkgo Biloba have been associated with the risk of seizure in some trials.
The most recent example of the dangers of using this manufacturing process includes the development of liver toxicity from using Kava Kava extract, an herb which has been safely used for hundreds of years!
It must also be added that this process of extraction requires the use of harsh chemicals and solvents, traces of which are difficult to remove completely from the final product.
To us, it makes little sense for companies to go the natural route, while being unable to guarantee that their product is free of contamination with chemicals known to be harmful to health!
Unlike many so-called natural remedies manufactured according to the methods described above, at Native Remedies, we avoid standardized extracts completely and use the Full Spectrum method of extraction, which is recommended by all the authoritative Materia Medica dealing with herbal medicine.
